|
|
I've now been running both 5770's overclocked since 14th January....
These cards come with the ATi-Overdrive Autotune utility, which makes overclocking extremely easy...
They're currently running at 895MHz GPU and 4x1400MHz memory, providing about a 20% overclock, fan is running under manual control @98%, and temp is rock steady at 53C. If dynamic fan control is enabled, temp varies from 59-68C, still very cool..
There have been no invalid WU's on Collatz, and currently levelled out at about 250K credit/day
The only problem so far, due to my own fault, is my third card was put in a rig with a 350W PSU which promptly died about 3 mins after liftoff The recommended minimum is a 450W PSU, which I think is an absolute minimum - both my other cards are running off 750W PSU's. Also, only one 6-pin connector required, unlike some of the nVidia GTX cards that require 2-6 or even an 8-pin connector...
At the moment, I'm looking at 1million credit roughly every 4 days, so when I install the replacement PSU, hopefully this will increase by about 1/3 _________________

Makes my little GeForce 8600 GTS (256MB) look like its from
the ark!!
can't grumble though, thanks to Rich_100, it's now chugging
away again on Collatz (all on its own) with a respectable bs rac of 6,093
Long over due for some upgrades though, and the ati stuff has
given me food for thought _________________

That's pretty impressive performance you are getting, I notice you have already charged into the team no.1 spot!
I'm so very tempted to get either a new card or whole new PC. I'm moving house at the moment though so money is a bit tight. Sometime very soon though. |

Thanks Rich & Dean !
Do either of you have any experience of AGP graphics cards I have one rig that the mobo doesn't have a PCI-E slot, but an AGP slot, about which I know very little - only what I've gleaned off the wikipedia site.
Currently this rig (P4 3.0GHz, 2GB ram, XP Pro 32 bit, onboard Via-Chrome 32bit Graphics) is only crunching FreeHal, Collatz (SSE on CPU), and the occasional Milky Way wu..
I've seen a brand new Ati card for about £40 that is 9800 XT AGP 4x/8x, 128 bit, 256MB mem, 300MHz core, 420MHz mem - just wondered if you think it's worth it, just to get this rig involved in the Collatz project
I realize that this card is unlikely to have anything like the same performance as the Ati 4xxx and 5xxx cards, but as I have no idea what sort of crunching ability AGP bus cards have, is it worth it....?

going by what my little card is producing on collatz, I'd
be inclined to go for it
(as long as it will support the processes. dont know much about ati cards) _________________

I'd be very intereseted to see what performance you could get from it. To be honest i had discounted the possibility of getting an AGP card that would work.
In terms of credit earned for money spent i doubt it will compare favourably with the 5770s but if you are just looking at maximising the output of that machine it might be worth a shot.

Was amazed by what is out there, don't know what the performance of this is like compared to a 9800 but has much faster core/ram speeds and a lot more memory for only £50. But then both may be bottlenecked by the AGP slot & P4 chip well before that becomes an issue. |

Sorry - but in order to run BOINC you need an CUDA enabled card - being in the same position as you in only having an AGP slot (Asus A8V Deluxe Socket 939 running my dual-core Opteron) I have looked long and hard - there are no CUDA enabled AGP cards available.
Sorry, but you`ll have to rely on CPU only.
